and how come super shadow flashes yellow to a greyish colour, I think he should just stay yellow. Super shadows afterimages while boosting stay black instead of being yellow.
The game is cool to play, but the bosses are pretty difficult which makes the game a bit frustrating sometimes. And quite a lot of the levels feel like mazes which feels a bit lame. Also, it feels like I can never run without getting hit by something, there is always an obstacle that will come without warning. Overall it's a nice game.
Alright, Second Complaint Time. Game Is Overall Great, But Some Of The Bosses Are Nearly Impossible For Me To Complete. Like The Boss In Volcano Valley Without A Fire Shield For Example.
And Why In The Hey Are You Not Able To Continue Act 2 Of The Zones In The Main Menu?
Ok, I Have To Complain. Can You Seriously Redo The Miniboss In Diamond Dust Zone? Seriously, You Cannot (Almost) Even Dodge The Lazers. Consider This, "The Hardest Boss In Fangame History."
Like, Why Did You Have To Make It Dark Souls Difficulty?
I didn't make it remotely hard as dark souls is. People can beat every single boss in this game without getting hit, and I'm sure you could do it too.
E99 isn't difficult: just look at what he is doing and plan a strategy. Do notcharge forward and try to hit him before he shoots. You should have determined it isn't the right way to do it by now.
Keep your distance, jump above the laser 3 times, close the gap and hit E99.
If you have already installed Homebrew (if you don't remember, open the Terminal and type brew -v), skip these steps:
1. Go to your Applications folder, go to Utilities and open the Terminal.
2. Paste the code that appears at the Homebrew page and press enter.
Now, we're going to install Wineskin. You can also skip these steps if you already installed Wineskin.
3. After succesfully installing Homebrew, go to the this page, go to "How to Install" and copy the Homebrew code.
4. Paste the code into the Terminal and press enter.
5. If succesfull, Wineskin Winery will now appear in your apps.
6. Next, open Wineskin Winery. If you get a popup saying that it is from an Unidentified Developer, click Cancel, then right click and click Open, instead.
Now for actually setting up the game:
7. Open Wineskin and Install the newest engine (in this case, it should work out well with WS11WineCX21.1.0; if you already have this engine, skip this step.) by clicking the + sign next to where it says New Engine(s) available!.
8. After the engine installation, click said engine and click "Create New Blank Wrapper". Name the wrapper whatever you want to (would recommend you to name it Sonic 3D in 2D, seems like a good name tbh) and click Ok. Now the installation should begin
9. When it finishes, it should tell you to "View Wrapper in Finder", click that. Now drag the new wrapper to any place you can remember where it is (the wineskin folder is kinda hard to access).
10. Right click the wrapper and click "Show Package Contents". Then open the Wineskin app that appears in the folder.
11. Now download .zip file of Sonic 3d in 2d and open it. At this point you can also download the Saturn DLC, unzip it and do as the guide above says.
12. Returning see a menu that says "Install Software", "Set Screen Options" and "Advanced". Click Install Software and go to "Copy a Folder Inside". Then go to where you have the unzipped folder and select it.
13. After this, it can prompt you to select where the executable file is, so select Sonic3D2d 1.27.exe
14. After this, go to Advanced and click Winetricks and search "vcrun6". A part that says dll shows, open that and select both vcrun6 and vcrun6sp6. Then click Run.
15. After installing the Winetricks, click Close and it should be done. Double click (or right-click Open) the Sonic 3D in 2D.app (which is the wrapper) and it should run fine.
But what happens if I haven't installed the Saturn DLC but I've already installed the game!?
Well what you can do is right click the Sonic 3D in 2D.app and click Show Package Contents. Then open the drive_c folder and got to Program Files. Go to the S3D2d-1.27 10-10-21 folder (the date and version shouldn't matter) and do the same as listed in the Saturn DLC guide Sotaknuck posted.
It would be cool if Sotaknuck added this to the page :)
Also compressed the installation guides in their own block selection for a better compact look. Once more, thank you for the guide! I really appreciate your effort!
I adore the level of detail and creativity. Playing against any boss was so much fun, and i loved all the act1 bosses. Challenging, but not impossible. I loved the fact that the levels have multiple paths because i wouldnt expect that from an indie sonic game. The sprite-work is soooo goood! I'm a total fan.
Now here are some critics from me:
Contents:
Confusing paths in some stages
Short rebound period after getting hit
Enemies/obstacles always in the way, no running allowed
Rings in special stages arrive too fast
It was hard to find any secret rings after zone 2.
Cant move mid air while spindashing
In some bossfights rings go out of screen when getting hit
You can stand still and not lose the ring vs the final boss pt1
Elaborate version
Sometimes i felt lost and didn't know where to go next, especially in zone 2 even with the knuckles statues, that one is all over the place.
Very short "invincibility" time after getting hit, shorter than in the original games. It makes the game a bit frustrating at times, examples include: no time to escape long arrays of spikes once you get poked, some bosses like the puppet tails or puppet egg machine pt1 chase you mid air and cause immediate death after a hit.
I would constantly bump into enemies/obstacles without the chance to react. I played as sonic and i couldn't run. Not the best idea for sonic in my opinion. Some sonic games are bashed because of this, and i think it is justified.
The rings in special stages come out without a sense of distance. In the original games they would arrive in 2-3 frames, taking about 2 seconds to get to you, being zoomed while closing in. The bombs do so, but the rings dont. It was very hard to react on time even with jumping.
In most of the zones i couldn't find the special stages. It may be me, or the fact that they're put in places i didn't even know existed. In the original games i could always find the special stage rings. I did explore the levels quite a bit as sonic.
Bad mid air mechanics - When spin dashing, you cant move mid air. This is not the case in the original games i believe (played sonic mania recently).
Some bossfights are only harder because the rings are going out of bounds when you get hit (spring stadium zone and gene gadget zone act1 bosses) or are irrecoverable (act1 panic puppet zone boss).
You can stand, get hit by the flamethrower or minigun, and recover the ring without moving vs the final boss pt 1 if you point the character to the right.
I know most of these things are meant as increased difficulty, but all they do is make the player invest much more time into the game, or they add more frustration to it. 2D platformers, in my opinion, are casual games, and this kind of difficulty is not what I'm looking for.
All this said, the game was still very enjoyable and fun to play. As someone who liked 3D sonic, i loved playing it in 2D here and i did see the similarity.
Unclear things
Starting the game as amy has overwritten my sonic game without warning, so i couldnt pick stages anymore. Is there a way to revert that?
No back button in the menu? Did i miss it?
The colors in the game seem to be a bit darker than the rest of my screen, is it just me?
I'd love to see an unlockable bossfights only mode! I bet your game would be so popular if you allowed this mode from the start (for people who can't invest as much time in the game as you'd like them to). Seeing the fights on youtube brought me joy and i immediately searched for the download link.
Also the unnamed mecha sonic, damn...nice touch. I played sonic adventure, and that....that mecha sonic is something :)
Hello there! Thanks for playing, enjoying the game and providing some feedback!
3D2D is meant to be replayed, and with repeated play you'll not only learn the levels and enemy positioning but will start to take advantage of the environment and the various paths as you play with different characters. In terms of difficulty it is closer to Sonic 2 SMS which was harder than most, but very rewarding once mastered.
The mid air mechanic is exactly like in the mega drive classics: you don't have air control if you jump after a spin dash. Don't forget that Sonic has the insta shield as his ability, which restores air control when used. He is the only character that can regain air control after a spin dash in sonic 3 & Knuckles.
The save game system is a single slot, so you lose your progress on a new game. However it remembers how many extras you unlocked, and once you unlock everything your save game will become an "All clear" save, and you'll be able to choose any character and any level without restrictions.
I'm aware that the panic puppet zone track seems to have issues there for some users, unfortunately that doesn't happen on my PCs no matter what I try...
I'll give the code of the intro a pass again for 1.28, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to solve a bug I cannot reliably trigger...
After some time I could finally complete this game, so here is some (lots of) criticism:
This is very well done, the sprites, the bosses, but the level design is very linear and confusing, places were you dont know were to go, places with unnecessary: "if you do it wrong go back and repeat" moments, which slow down the flow of the level and makes it insufferable, this could be solved simply by adding alternate paths making the game much less linear, and make those platforming sections competely optional for experienced players (the level design all classic sonic games have), if we also sum the weird slug-ish controls of the simple sonic worlds engine that make the game feel slower than most sonic games (or maybe is because of the level design that I find this game so slow), there is a complete lack of life monitors that make the game unnecessarily hard, so most lives i got were because I got 100 rings, and obviusly the flaw most people i know talk about, the special stages, those feel just like the pc sonic 3D blast stages but with the ring appear distance from sonic 2 (genesis) which makes these special stages a complete headache all these flaws makes this game a pain in the ass to complete. But even with all these flaws I think this game can be still enjoyable, some stages were very fun, as i have said all the bosses are challenging and very enjoyable, the spritework and the visuals just feel like an original sonic game, but its flaws make the experience feel frustrating and much less enjoyable than it should be.
That is pretty much my criticism, english is not my first language so there are some minor mistakes on this redaction. I hope you find this useful and not as an attack to your work.
Thank you for your compliments and criticism. This game is made to be replayed more than once, to learn new paths and secrets, use the different characters and find the extra lives hidden around (and there are many, trust me!)
For once I am surprised to read that the game feels linear! Levels have multiple paths, which may be harder or impossible to access for Sonic, but there is always more than one path to clear an act.
I'm also really glad to read you enjoyed the boss battles!
Overall I love this, but the special stages are honestly pretty bad. They're just Sonic 2 special stages, but rewarding pattern memorization rather than skillful gameplay. A huge amount of the rings that appear are already impossible or near impossible to get by the time they're visible due to their placement in turns.
You don't need to memorize the tracks, just to become quick in identifying the patterns (alternate left and right, all nearby, spirals, dna...). Once you do they become very easy.
It is expected to lose the first block of rings of each pattern. They are the lead for the others that follow and there is always 3x the required ring amount on stage.
Jump left and right instead of running from one side to the other, and don't stop at the bottom for too long or you may get hit by a bomb.
By the time you unlock Wechnia, you should be able to clear them easily. Don't give up!
I know and I really am impressed by your creativity with using the Advance sprites Sonic Rush and ones from the genesis also your take in Eggman makes the whole “ Sonic 3D blast being the last major Sonic game before adventure “ more depth considering it’s a mix of Classic and modern.
Thanks! I really felt like the original plot could be extended with extras and easter eggs to better feel like part of the timelike that leads to Adventure. 3D on its own feels like an isolated game, and that kind of hurts it.
The special stages needs to be tweaked, the speed at which things comes at me throws me off every time, and the physics feels very wrong there. Outside the special stage, the physics feels nice and responsive.
For the Special Stage, I think it might be a good idea to look at Sonic Rush's or do something entirely new, like a more plain area where you move left, right and jump to dodge obstacles. Oh, and add a ring requirement to the screen (like showing X/30, X/60).
Keep up the real nice job! Glad someone like you is remaking 3D Blast in an actually fun environment.
i need to ask this, was Mega Drive accuracy the main goal when making this game? if so, i mean, not to down put ya' but this game doesn't seem very accurate when it comes to Mega Drive Limitations. GOOD GAME REGARDLESS
I aimed at a reasonable approximation, not a 1:1 behavior.
I wanted it to feel enough mega drive like and I think that I accomplished it even if I ignored some limits, added transparencies and have the characters accelerate a little more, for example.
ok thats fair. i will tell ya this though, when there is a lake in the background, if the lake is closer to the bottom of the screen, then it scrolls faster than the top.
the game is very good.but I have a complaint when I installed the saturn dlc and when I did it wrong the game was literally unplayable on this pc but the thing is that no matter how much I downloaded it again.that version did not work either try to download it from sonic fangames HQ and gamejolt but it is guided without working literally it is like the game is unplayable at least on this pc.I would really appreciate if someone could help me fix this error.

i've thinkin about this music mod that's make my best music mod ever created.
i've found that these soundtracks can simple loop if you cut the silence at the beggining and the part that's goes loop again for just to fade out the music, i've uses it to make the most silenced loop as possible (not many videogames music can be so nice loop by just removing the last seconds of that music that's were restarts to make the less adbrubted the music loops)
The problem with mp3 files and ogg files is the padding that is added at the start of each file, which makes it harder to find the perfect looping point as depending on the program it varies the silence delay at the start of a song.
That's the main reason behind the Loop Tuner patch I made for the game. The only real way to get a perfect loop is to go in-game and test the looping points in-engine, or have them cut like you mentioned.
Hello, there is no plan to do that. The special stages just require a bit of practice, and you'll clear them with much more than the required amount of rings.
Jump. Jump from left to right to land quicly on the opposite side
Learn to identify the patterns: there are patterns that repeat in sequence (left-right-left, line-nearbyline-nearby-line, left right left with bombs in the center, spirals and "DNA")
Tap the direction when you move, don't hold it too long
If you lightly tap, the character will stay in line and run on the sides.
There are more than 3x the required rings. if the stage wants you to get 150 rings, there are at least 500 scattered around.
You don't need to get the emeralds on the first playthrough. Once you clear the game you can replay Green Grove over and over until you get them,
Also, two emeralds are handed for free, that leaves you with only 5 emeralds per game.
sorry but the game it doesnt run when I open it, later the .exe disappears and I need to extract again the game, but Nothing happens I cant open it, please help me
hello sotaknuck i have a problem with the panic puppet soundtrack with the custom soundtrack durin the initial cutscene of the story, it's usually an bug with the custom soundtrack, it loads correctly in game but in cutscene it breaks

Hard bosses are literally the second feature of the game.
Keep trying and you'll figure it out...have you tried to reach it with a fire shield? Robotnik cannot even touch you if you have it.
All the bosses are beatable without taking damage, even those you haven't seen yet.
---
You can't start from act2, because you can't start in act2 in s3k.
However, should you manage to unlock the "ALL CLEAR" savegame, you'll be able to select act2 at will.
I Have Tried Using The Fire Shield, But Uh Oh! I Could Not Find A Fire Shield In Volcano Valley Act 2.
Well...keep looking!
*Hint* - One is right at the start of the act, just outside the gate.
Dude Make It Play In Browser
He possibly wont.
Ok, I Have To Complain.
Can You Seriously Redo The Miniboss In Diamond Dust Zone?
Seriously, You Cannot (Almost) Even Dodge The Lazers.
Consider This, "The Hardest Boss In Fangame History."

Ah, I See Now.
Edit: Volcano Valley Zone Is Slowly Becoming The Bane Of My Existence In This Game.
Oh, And I Also Found Big The Cat In The Game Files.

In versión 1.29 You Will Make an Android Port of Sonic 3d in 2d please!!! 😞😞😞
I found a way to play this on Mac!
First of all, you need to install Homebrew so you can easily install Wineskin Winery.

It would be cool if Sotaknuck added this to the page :)
I will definitely do it once I have a moment available! This is absolutely great news! Thank you!
Thanks!
Done!
Also compressed the installation guides in their own block selection for a better compact look. Once more, thank you for the guide! I really appreciate your effort!
thanks for the compression! :D

for the saturn dlc, do you copy and paste the contents inside the folder, or just copy and paste the whole folder in the files?
You cannot paste folders inside files :P
If you do everything correctly the "Saturn" and the "Custom" folders of the DLC end inside your Data\Soundtrack\ folder.
there are some bugs with the intro cutscene after selecting a new game with custom soundtrack.

i found a funny bug
how do i get past
Just go left, there is a sign that tells you which way to go...
That one is a path for Knuckles. To pass with Sonic you need either a fire shield, or to be Super.
ok
I have a Idea for a new name for the game:
Sonic 2d Blast (If you're ok w/ renaming it AND Sonic 2d Blast isn't used)
the game is very good. but I have a complaint when I installed the saturn dlc and when I did it wrong the game was literally unplayable on this pc but the thing is that no matter how much I downloaded it again. that version did not work either try to download it from sonic fangames HQ and gamejolt but it is guided without working literally it is like the game is unplayable at least on this pc. can you make for macos please?
How can I play with shadow?
Clear the game with a good ending twice.
would like to see someone port this to Android
Hi everyone! I made the remastered (again) on this game. https://ferchoroger.itch.io/remastered-soundtrack-sonic-3d-in-2d
oofy
i love sonic
Is this a malware? Just asking.
No. It's an unfortunate known issue with fusion games (you can google it). They work with compressed data in the exe: antiviruses see this de-compression re-compression of data like a strange behaviour and flags them as Evo Gen type of virus as part of their heuristic process.
Latest patches of fusion improved this false positive situation a lot, but it's still a problem.
Please set up an exception in the antivirus or windows if they block or delete the game's executable file.
Missing a platform respawn in act 1
It doesn't even matter which act 1. It's intentional. All platforms do not respawn.
hello everybody, i released a new soundtrack mod for this game, enjoy it. https://kitty2135.itch.io/rayman-3-soundtrack-for-sonic-3d-in-2d
i've thinkin about this music mod that's make my best music mod ever created.
i've found that these soundtracks can simple loop if you cut the silence at the beggining and the part that's goes loop again for just to fade out the music, i've uses it to make the most silenced loop as possible (not many videogames music can be so nice loop by just removing the last seconds of that music that's were restarts to make the less adbrubted the music loops)
Wohooo! One new OST to go! Awesome!

The special stages are so fast and unpredictable and it's very difficult. Can you make them slower so that it's a bit easier?
Hello, there is no plan to do that. The special stages just require a bit of practice, and you'll clear them with much more than the required amount of rings.
Also, two emeralds are handed for free, that leaves you with only 5 emeralds per game.
is too easy for me now
sorry but the game it doesnt run when I open it, later the .exe disappears and I need to extract again the game, but Nothing happens I cant open it, please help me
Hello, either your Windows or your Antivirus decided the game is a potentially dangerous program and automatically deletes it.
You have to set an exception for it to run.
