how do these concros work

What?

I've always thought that the final boss is too easy and repetitive. All you do is avoid the same 5 attacks for 3 minutes and it gets boring pretty quick.  The 3rd attack always feels really pathetic because it is almost impossible to get hurt by the hands. Compared to the rest of the bosses  the final boss is too easy.

I almost ran into that tunnel in green grove act 2 as Ashura then I quickly turned back just before I went in then I suddenly become curled up and couldn't get out of it, all I could do was roll left or right. Then I kept going backward until I got to this pool then the drowning counter started and when it got to 0 nothing happened so I had to restart the game.

I'll check the triggers for leaving the tunnel to make sure you won't get stuck in the force-roll state that they apply.

Rusty Ruins Act 2 never ends!

Why can't you go back to the title screen from the menu. Why does there have to be an 'Extra' menu. Why can't you just choose characters from where you select sonic tails and knuckles?

(1 edit)

I wanted to keep the game "mega drive" like with limited menus.

F2 resets the game, so you can go to the main menu at any time from anywhere.

Extra characters are "non canon" so they are in the extra menu. However,  once you get the the all clear save you can start with whoever you want from the "continue" action.

Please, made version for android

I still think he needs more to him then just sonic with a jump dash which doesn't work underwater and can just be replaced by getting any elemental shield.  Maybe just give him an air dash without the fire? I feel shadow's boost may need a nerf. I never really see people use it that much, I don't use it much either, it makes things too easy.

I think Ashura works well as he is.

The Firedash as base ability gives him a lot more navigational options than base Sonic (Sonic needs better play to keep a fire shield on). This means Ashura can easily access wall blocked paths and shortcuts with less effort.

You can rush down through the stages with him at the cost of being less effective than Sonic at the bosses.

Amy and Shadow cover respectively the Hard mode and the Easy mode, so yeah, it makes sense for Shadow to feel easy.

Ok. I wish we were able to actually use the dash underwater though and make it so that shield abilities won't just replace it.

i have a bug in the game when i hit jump the game close

sonics not dead is he?

can I get mfa file?I want to know how to make good games like this

me when this game:we'll be right backsonicfalls.png

REEEEEEE

hello. i recently just downloaded the files given, but i can not find an exe anywhere in the folder i downloaded. help?

(1 edit)

That's an antivirus/windows issue.

Your system decided the file might be dangerous and deleted it without warning you. You should check the options and see if it was deleted or quarantined.

thank you. i got it working out, but now my game loaded with all chaos emeralds already unlocked. is there a way i can delete them?

nevermind, i saw there is a cutscene involving losing them.

well I went to play as sonic but it wasn't 'All Clear'

I still don't know how to unlock the all clear savegame, I've completed the game with all characters now but nothing happened.

Did you unlock the Bonus Stage Mode?

Also check your save game. Under continue you should have "ALL CLEAR"

Ohhh Ok

curious question, who is the white and black metal sonic with the orange eyes.

It's the unused Sonic Robot that appears in Final Egg in Sonic Adventure.
I personally call him Silver Mk2

I also think amys dash should be up+a/c instead of down because it feels super similar to the super peel out which uses up instead of down.

And Amy feels so hard to play with, because she can't curl up into a ball. And she can't go super either. And I don't like how you have to hold down and B to do the hammer jump. I feel like the hammer jump should be her normal jump.

Amy is the hard mode of the game. I won't make changes to her.

Fair enough

Bluckles insta shield skill is so inconvenient compared to sonic. Can't you just make it so that you have to press a different button to use it instead of pressing Jump and up?

Part of me agrees with you. I will consider this for a future patch.

and also, I wish ashura had more skills because he is basically identical to sonic. Only difference is the fire dash but sonic can easily do the same with a fire shield.

Sonic relies on his (amazing) insta-shield normally, so he can't firedash unless he has one.

The way you play changes a lot for this: with Ashura you can firedash like crazy, worst thing it happens you get hurt. You are incentivized to play a lot more reckless than with Sonic.

With Sonic if you lose the fire dash, and well, you can't dash anymore.

I know, but this is like the only difference between sonic and ahsura. I feel like ashura should have more different skills. Other than just having a fire dash all the time (except under water) he is just a clone of sonic.

I don't like how when you start a new game with a different character, the stuff you've done with your last character just disappears

Keep playing.

You'll unlock the All Clear savegame eventually, and you can choose to play any character into any stage and act.

do you have to use every character to unlock the All clear savegame?

No, you can clear the game more times with the same character if you want to.

I'm Gonna Play This Song Because You Literally Forgot To Put A Fire Shield Monitor Before The Boss Of Volcano Valley.
Also, This Fangame Is Making Me Rage Alot.

On A Side Note, The Having To Replay Volcano Valley Over And Over Again Is Making Me Lose One Bit Of My Sanity.
And Dying In That Zone Makes Me Wanna Throw My Keyboard On Solid Ground In Rage.

and how come super shadow flashes yellow to a greyish colour, I think he should just stay yellow. Super shadows afterimages while boosting stay black instead of being yellow.

The game is cool to play, but the bosses are pretty difficult which makes the game a bit frustrating sometimes. And quite a lot of the levels feel like mazes which feels a bit lame. Also, it feels like I can never run without getting hit by something, there is always an obstacle that will come without warning. Overall it's a nice game.

Alright, Second Complaint Time.
Game Is Overall Great, But Some Of The Bosses Are Nearly Impossible For Me To Complete.
Like The Boss In Volcano Valley Without A Fire Shield For Example.

And Why In The Hey Are You Not Able To Continue Act 2 Of The Zones In The Main Menu?

(-1)

Hard bosses are literally the second feature of the game.

Keep trying and you'll figure it out...have you tried to reach it with a fire shield? Robotnik cannot even touch you if you have it.

All the bosses are beatable without taking damage, even those you haven't seen yet.

---

You can't start from act2, because you can't start in act2 in s3k.

However, should you manage to unlock the "ALL CLEAR" savegame, you'll be able to select act2 at will.

(-1)

I Have Tried Using The Fire Shield, But Uh Oh! I Could Not Find A Fire Shield In Volcano Valley Act 2.

Well...keep looking!
*Hint* - One is right at the start of the act, just outside the gate.

Ok, I Have To Complain.
Can You Seriously Redo The Miniboss In Diamond Dust Zone?
Seriously, You Cannot (Almost) Even Dodge The Lazers.
Consider This, "The Hardest Boss In Fangame History."

Like, Why Did You Have To Make It Dark Souls Difficulty?

(-1)

I didn't make it remotely hard as dark souls is. People can beat every single boss in this game without getting hit, and I'm sure you could do it too.

E99 isn't difficult: just look at what he is doing and plan a strategy. Do notcharge  forward and try to hit him before he shoots. You should have determined it isn't the right way to do it by now.

Keep your distance, jump above the laser 3 times, close the gap and hit E99.

Ah, I See Now.
Edit: Volcano Valley Zone Is Slowly Becoming The Bane Of My Existence In This Game.

In versión 1.29 You Will Make an Android Port of Sonic 3d in 2d please!!! 😞😞😞

I found a way to play this on Mac!

First of all, you need to install Homebrew so you can easily install Wineskin Winery.

If you have already installed Homebrew (if you don't remember, open the Terminal and type brew -v),  skip these steps:

1. Go to your Applications folder, go to Utilities and open the Terminal.

2. Paste the code that appears at the Homebrew page and press enter.

Now, we're going to install Wineskin. You can also skip these steps if you already installed Wineskin.

3. After succesfully installing Homebrew, go to the this page, go to "How to Install" and copy the Homebrew code.

4. Paste the code into the Terminal and press enter.

5. If succesfull, Wineskin Winery will now appear in your apps.

6. Next, open Wineskin Winery. If you get a popup saying that it is from an Unidentified Developer, click Cancel, then right click and click Open, instead.

Now for actually setting up the game:

7.  Open Wineskin and Install the newest engine (in this case, it should work out well with WS11WineCX21.1.0; if you already have this engine, skip this step.) by clicking the + sign next to where it says New Engine(s) available!.

8. After the engine installation, click said engine and click "Create New Blank Wrapper". Name the wrapper whatever you want to (would recommend you to name it Sonic 3D in 2D, seems like a good name tbh) and click Ok. Now the installation should begin

9. When it finishes, it should tell you to "View Wrapper in Finder", click that. Now drag the new wrapper to any place you can remember where it is (the wineskin folder is kinda hard to access).

10. Right click the wrapper and click "Show Package Contents". Then open the Wineskin app that appears in the folder.

11. Now download .zip file of Sonic 3d in 2d and open it. At this point you can also download the Saturn DLC, unzip it and do as the guide above says.

12. Returning  see a menu that says "Install Software", "Set Screen Options" and "Advanced". Click Install Software and go to "Copy a Folder Inside". Then go to where you have the unzipped folder and select it.

13. After this, it can prompt you to select where the executable file is, so select Sonic3D2d 1.27.exe

14. After this, go to Advanced and click Winetricks and search "vcrun6". A part that says dll shows, open that and select both vcrun6 and vcrun6sp6. Then click Run.

15. After installing the Winetricks, click Close and it should be done. Double click (or right-click Open) the Sonic 3D in 2D.app (which is the wrapper) and it should run fine.

But what happens if I haven't installed the Saturn DLC but I've already installed the game!?

Well what you can do is right click the Sonic 3D in 2D.app and click Show Package Contents. Then open the drive_c folder and got to Program Files. Go to the S3D2d-1.27 10-10-21 folder (the date and version shouldn't matter) and do the same as listed in the Saturn DLC guide Sotaknuck posted.

It would be cool if Sotaknuck added this to the page :)

(+2)

I will definitely do it once I have a moment available! This is absolutely great news! Thank you!

Thanks!

(+1)

Done!

Also compressed the installation guides in their own block selection for a better compact look. Once more, thank you for the guide! I really appreciate your effort!

thanks for the compression! :D

I adore the level of detail and creativity. Playing against any boss was so much fun, and i loved all the act1 bosses. Challenging, but not impossible. I loved the fact that the levels have multiple paths because i wouldnt expect that from an indie sonic game. The sprite-work is soooo goood! I'm a total fan.

Now here are some critics from me:

Contents:

  1. Confusing paths in some stages
  2. Short rebound period after getting hit
  3. Enemies/obstacles always in the way, no running allowed
  4. Rings in special stages arrive too fast
  5. It was hard to find any secret rings after zone 2.
  6. Cant move mid air while spindashing
  7. In some bossfights rings go out of screen when getting hit
  8. You can stand still and not lose the ring vs the final boss pt1

Elaborate version

  1. Sometimes i felt lost and didn't know where to go next, especially in zone 2 even with the knuckles statues, that one is all over the place.
  2. Very short "invincibility" time after getting hit, shorter than in the original games. It makes the game a bit frustrating at times, examples include: no time to escape long arrays of spikes once you get poked, some bosses like the puppet tails or puppet egg machine pt1 chase you mid air and cause immediate death after a hit.
  3. I would constantly bump into enemies/obstacles without the chance to react. I played as sonic and i couldn't run. Not the best idea for sonic in my opinion. Some sonic games are bashed because of this, and i think it is justified.
  4. The rings in special stages come out without a sense of distance. In the original games they would arrive in 2-3 frames, taking about 2 seconds to get to you, being zoomed while closing in. The bombs do so, but the rings dont. It was very hard to react on time even with jumping.
  5. In most of the zones i couldn't find the special stages. It may be me, or the fact that they're put in places i didn't even know existed. In the original games i could always find the special stage rings. I did explore the levels quite a bit as sonic.
  6. Bad mid air mechanics - When spin dashing, you cant move mid air. This is not the case in the original games i believe (played sonic mania recently).
  7. Some bossfights are only harder because the rings are going out of bounds when you get hit (spring stadium zone and gene gadget zone act1 bosses) or are irrecoverable (act1 panic puppet zone boss).
  8. You can stand, get hit by the flamethrower or minigun, and recover the ring without moving vs the final boss pt 1 if you point the character to the right.

I know most of these things are meant as increased difficulty, but all they do is make the player invest much more time into the game, or they add more frustration to it. 2D platformers, in my opinion, are casual games, and this kind of difficulty is not what I'm looking for.

All this said, the game was still very enjoyable and fun to play. As someone who liked 3D sonic, i loved playing it in 2D here and i did see the similarity.

Unclear things

  1. Starting the game as amy has overwritten my sonic game without warning, so i couldnt pick stages anymore. Is there a way to revert that?
  2. No back button in the menu? Did i miss it?
  3. The colors in the game seem to be a bit darker than the rest of my screen, is it just me?

I'd love to see an unlockable bossfights only mode! I bet your game would be so popular if you allowed this mode from the start (for people who can't invest as much time in the game as you'd like them to). Seeing the fights on youtube brought me joy and i immediately searched for the download link.

Also the unnamed mecha sonic, damn...nice touch. I played sonic adventure, and that....that mecha sonic is something :)

All the best!

Hello there! Thanks for playing, enjoying the game and providing some feedback!

3D2D is meant to be replayed, and with repeated play you'll not only learn the levels and enemy positioning but will start to take advantage of the environment and the various paths as you play with different characters. In terms of difficulty it is closer to Sonic 2 SMS which was harder than most, but very rewarding once mastered.

The mid air mechanic is exactly like in the mega drive classics: you don't have air control if you jump after a spin dash. Don't forget that Sonic has the insta shield as his ability, which restores air control when used. He is the only character that can regain air control after a spin dash in sonic 3 & Knuckles.

The save game system is a single slot, so you lose your progress on a new game. However it remembers how many extras you unlocked, and once you unlock everything your save game will become an "All clear" save, and you'll be able to choose any character and any level without restrictions.

for the saturn dlc, do you copy and paste the contents inside the folder, or just copy and paste the whole folder in the files?

You cannot paste folders inside files :P

If you do everything correctly  the "Saturn" and the "Custom" folders of the DLC end inside your Data\Soundtrack\ folder.

there are some bugs with the intro cutscene after selecting a new game with custom soundtrack.

I'm aware that the panic puppet zone track seems to have issues there for some users, unfortunately that doesn't happen on my PCs no matter what I try...

I'll give the code of the intro a pass again for 1.28, but I can't guarantee I'll be able to solve a bug I cannot reliably trigger...

i've finished this music mod but i never published it, so i will publish this now:https://kitty2135.itch.io/sonic-3d-in-2d-the-annyversary-tracks

A lot of Rush vibes in there!

thank you!

can you port it to android after you update it please

After some time I could finally complete this game, so here is some (lots of) criticism:

This is very well done, the sprites, the bosses, but  the level design is very linear and confusing, places were you dont know were to go, places with unnecessary: "if you do it wrong go back and repeat" moments, which slow down the flow of the level and makes it insufferable, this could be solved simply by adding alternate paths making the game much less linear, and make those platforming sections competely optional for experienced players (the level design all classic sonic games have), if we also sum the weird slug-ish controls of the simple sonic worlds engine that make the game feel slower than most sonic games (or maybe is because of the level design that I find this game so slow),  there is a complete lack of life monitors that make the game unnecessarily hard, so most lives i got were because I got 100 rings, and obviusly the flaw most people i know talk about, the special stages, those feel just like the pc sonic 3D blast stages but with the ring appear distance from sonic 2 (genesis) which makes these special stages a complete headache all these flaws makes this game a pain in the ass to complete. But even with all these flaws I think this game can be still enjoyable, some stages were very fun, as i have said all the bosses are challenging and very enjoyable, the spritework and the visuals just feel like an original sonic game, but its flaws make the experience feel frustrating and much less enjoyable than it should be.

That is pretty much my criticism, english is not my first language so there are some minor mistakes on this redaction. I hope you find this useful and not as an attack to your work.

Thank you for your compliments and criticism. This game is made to be replayed more than once, to learn new paths and secrets, use the different characters and find the extra lives hidden around (and there are many, trust me!)

For once I am surprised to read that the game feels linear! Levels have multiple paths, which may be harder or impossible to access for Sonic, but there is always more than one path to clear an act.

I'm also really glad to read you enjoyed the boss battles!

When Will there be an Android Port of Sonic 3d in 2d?
