Well, I got wine installed and everything working perfectly, sadly the game crashes after inputing the "start" for control configuration.
I don't know how or why this happens, or how to fix it, and I doubt it can be fixed since I'm running 10.13 High Sierra version of MacOS, which is a pretty old version. If there is a fix for this please let me know!
this game was fun to play but difficult. im probably bad at sonic games, but this one felt tougher than others. not necessarily a bad thing, but it was noticeable. everything else was great, graphics, music, etc. kudos for the continuous development and frequent updates!
Probably been suggested before, but might I suggest the choice of soundtracks like what was done for the newest PC release of Sonic CD? Alternative sound effects and little jingles not included of course, just stage music.
PS - I cannot state how well this is done and how happy this made me to see and play. Please keep going, I wanna see where else this could go.
I have played only the 1.04 version so far, but since I have not seen any comment about it, I would point out a bug that happens just after defeating the sub boss of Diamond Dust Zone. The boss keeps exploding and throwing lasers and bombs indefinitely, and the player must either wait for a time over or kill itself. That has happened to me twice, and in both occasions I had defeated the boss very quickly with super characters. Sorry if it has been addressed already. Anyway, wonderful game! I'm looking forward for more!
ok. so, I just had a close friend play the game who was significantly better at 2d sonic games and he had gotten further than i had gotten, but even he admitted the same problems. invincibility damage frames should take a bit longer, and the special stages are still very hard, but it is still a really really fun game to play
you can also make a remake of the sonic 2 master system (like - sonic 2 8 bit in 16 bit) with an engine based on mania.you can think of cool things to add.
Hey, just wanted to say thank you for making this wonderful game! I'm going to play through it soon.
Also, for any Linux users out there I was able to get it to start using Lutris with the following settings under Arch Linux (KDE DE) on my Librem 15 laptop:
Wine version: lutris-5.7-x86_64
DXVK off. (otherwise would crash immediately after launch)
Used winetricks to install vcrun6. (otherwise crash after input setup)
Set up separate wineprefix to keep things clean.
With these settings got through the first zone. Will test and report back with any issues.
Edit: Game version 1.07, also did not test gamepad input, just keyboard.
Edit#2: Tested an 8-bit do SN30 Pro+ gamepad (FW 4.01) connected through onboard bluetooth using Nintendo Switch mode (Y+START to turn on gamepad). Worked with no problem mapping buttons.
Edit#3: Game works in either fullscreen or windowed mode. Was a bit laggy when maximized in windowed, but the Librem only has Intel HD Graphics 620, so a dedicated card would likely perform better. Did crash after switching between full and window a few times during gameplay. Left screen with low resolution after crash. Configure -> System options -> Restore resolution on exit in Lutris settings made the original resolution return the next time it crashed. So, just be careful toggling between the screen modes.
Thank you for playing, and also for finding a setup for it to work on a Linux System! With your permission I'll put those steps into the troubleshooting section of the game pages.
Hello! I have already commented here but this time is something else, when you connect my ps4 control the game takes a long time to load things, it is a bit annoying,¿ I wonder if this only happens to me or is it part of the game?
PS: I have version 1.07 and I am a bit disappointed
Look for the "Destination" field, it contains the path of the application ("C:\BLAH BLA BLAH\Sonic3D2d 1.08.exe")
Add the commands you want after the double quotes, separated by space ("C:\BLAH BLA BLAH\Sonic3D2d 1.08.exe" /MIS1 /OLDPAUSE /LIGHTWATER)
Play the game from that link
You may still get slowdowns when levels load and you use a controller: it's windows 10's fault that for reasons out of my control takes a long time to load the controller's routines into the game's joystick controls.
I already have the version corresponding to my pc installed, all good the first few days but today when I tried to pass the game on with amy, the water thing happened again and changed to another character but my pc is still Windows 7, and I was wondering if it can remove dependency from directX

I think the best way to make this game significantly more enjoyable is to tone down some enemy spots. Some hits felt very cheap. I went up a ramp and ram into some spikes on the roof. That is very cheap for an attack. It makes things feel unfair. My speed was rewarded with a practically unavoidable hit, losing all of my rings. I think there are two perfect ways to avoid getting upset. Make invincibility frames last a second or two longer, and when you take damage only lose a certain number of rings. It's perfectly fine to make levels more difficult than the common type, but you should implement attributes to make it not feel as aggravating... I'm not saying that this is god awful, like other reviews I've read. This is an awesome re-imagining of Sonic 3D Blast and I have genuine respect for its idea and the talent given to it. If this game had some polish and focus, I'm sure it will be a phenomenal game.
Pros
animation
quality
sprites
music
some act layouts
bubble shields
MOST enemy placement
you get chaos emeralds from mini-bosses
game play consistency (the depictions of the levels stay faithful to the original Acts)
Cons
invincibility frames are too short.
Special Stages are unplayable for me (rings pass by way too fast)
SOME enemy placement and spikes
elemental bubbles give no effect to Tails and Knuckles (but that's honestly excusable, since S3&K had the same problem)
Small minor glitches (that I'm sure will get patched up on later updates)
All in all, I enjoy the game, I just hope some things get polished.
Noahd, you're doing it wrong, you don't need to charge to the other side. You have to go slow and use the spring at the base the statue is pointing at 0:49.
Knuckles knows the way, and Dustin knows it too! XD
OK! lol I'm a fuggin idiot. i figured those bounce pads were for backtracking but I is an OOpSy!! Still think the level are just a tad over-saturated with enemies
I don't think there's too many enemies... as an example the normal path of Rusty Ruins Zone 2 from start to the boss has exactly 10 enemies, and there's 32 in total that you meet only if you explore the the entire level.
Hey creator of you're reading this i would suggest changing the title from Sonic 3d in 2d to Sonic 2d blast cause people are gonna get confused what its based on
so i binded a controller to the game and then unplugged it when i was done. Got that? Okay. so i tried to play the game without the controller (because i don't have it on me) but it doesn't take inputs from my keyboard but is waiting for inputs from my controller
Edit: i stripped the game of the "last" and "save" file and it reset so Problem fixed? Oh yeah and i can't see shit in the special stage
"save" contains your progress in the game so you should not delete it.
"last" contains the controls profile you saved, so if you played with a controller, the game will think you still plan to play with a controller. At the moment you have 2 options, re-plug the controller or remove "last" like you did.
I have a problem from the get-go. i know i can play this game on the keyboard but my fingers quickly cramp on that style, so i try to remap the controller to my xbox one (for windows) controller and right after I map it, and it makes the continue chime, the game just no longer functions on controller or keyboard... I hope I am just missing something. can you help please?
I'm not sure why remapping the xbox one controller (I don't own one to try) caused the procedure and all controls to block, but you can reset the mappings by accessing the Data\Profiles folder by removing the file called "last".
This way the game will reload the input screen when you start and you should be able to retry.
I ran some checks and found out a bug: If you immediately remap your controls during the first ever controls set up the controls menu freezes (it's a problem that doesn't happen if you come back to the mapping menu a second time from the title screen because a "last" profile file was already created) so this bug might be the reason of your problem.
yes, but when i delete "Last", I am back at where I started and it doesn't give me the option to map my controller until I map the keyboard, again, brings me back to square one. I just tried several times and nothing changed. maybe you should have a remapping options in the extras for the sake of pacing. this way you could have it automatically save the remapping even if the game freezes. you could just close the game and open it back up using the controller
One of the best sonic fangames I have played this year, boss fights are challenging and my favorite battle of the game is fighting all sonic mecha, I wish them good luck and i hope more people play this fangame :D, Here is a video against all the bosses without taking damage:
while I don't agree with a lot of what your review had said, I do very much agree with what you said with the special stages. 2D games should always be treated as if they introducing new fans to the franchise and should tread carefully with everything. especially special zones and stuff like that. it feels unjustified that the first special zone has spikes everywhere unlike every other depiction where the spike balls are a rarity in the first special stage. the rings passing animation is like they slow down upon approaching them which is not how a forward perspective looks. they slowly approach and then they get closer faster when you pass them. think about how you drive by signs. you can see them slowly get closer but when you are close to them they pass quickly. sure. its playable but that does not excuse it to be passable. not everyone grew up with the 2D games. not every sonic fan is a master at the 2D games. I just recently beated all of the 2D canonical games and I have been playing them since i was 2 years old "Gitting gud" is different for everyone. i happily will play the updated version of the game but i wont expect much of a different experience if the next update just fixes a few bugs instead of focuses on fixing main mechanics. I loved sonic 3D blast as a platformer game but hated it as a sonic game. That's why i downloaded this game expecting its focus to be on the speed aspect of sonic in the flicky island zones. so when im being told i NEED to be slow on certain levels i feel completely betrayed of what a sonic game is. I think this game will blow my mind if it could get a better vision behind it. but right now. it feels like the people who made the Forces 2D levels made this. don't get me wrong. this is Leaps beyond forces gameplay, but it has that same annoying disappointing aftertaste
¡Hola! Encontré un error cuando entré en el área después del área de lava (lo siento, no sé los nombres) y cuando salí del ascensor, Shadow salió con el sprite Tails Tails (lo siento si es confuso xD) aquí una captura de pantalla del error ps: use el traductor de google
It sounds like a dumb question, but can you have multiple save files? Like if I press New Game, does it erase my old progress? I want to try playing the game with a different character, but I don't want to risk losing my current progress and finding out the hard way.
If you start a new game the current game session is lost, but when you will unlock every extra your save file will become an "ALL CLEAR" save instead of a simple "CLEAR". An ALL CLEAR save will allow you to select any character and start from any level.
the problem in special stages are the fast appear of rings you cant grab most of the rings and the bombs that makes horrible and the jump is like you jumping in brong timing and you touch the bonbs and lose rings (sorry for my bad english, i talk spanish)
Sorry to bother you again being trying the 1.03 version and want to ask about two things.
As amy when getting squashed from above while on a barrel the "body" seems to stay on the screen instead of falling of like other sonic games and after landing a hit on spring stadium act 1 boss is it normal to be able to get hit by the boss/its weakpoint before it teleports away?
Ahaha! Wonderful! Those barrels are a bughive! Thank you for finding out!
You should be able to bounce on the boss without taking damage if you keep using the hammer, but it seems there is some collision issue. I'll look into it. Thank you for reporting!
is that when I was closing the door I wanted to enter and I got stuck xD
Woow! How fast, thank you very much for making this game, it reminds me of my childhood ... it is excellent. I completed it 1 hour ago and I confess that it was not easy xD
Hello, thank you for playing and unlocking everything! At the moment I have no plans to add more things to the game and I consider it a completed project.

Is it possible to run this on a mac? This game looks really amazing and i'd like to try it out!
The only way I know that would possibly work would be to somehow get Wine installed or to use a virtual machine with Windows as the guest.
Well, I got wine installed and everything working perfectly, sadly the game crashes after inputing the "start" for control configuration.

This fan game has some of the most bullshit bosses and level design I've ever played in a sonic game.

Hello, thank you for playing! That bug has been fixed as of 1.08.
One of its coding routines had a chance to get activated at the same instant it died.
Can you make a version with the Sega Saturn music
ok. so, I just had a close friend play the game who was significantly better at 2d sonic games and he had gotten further than i had gotten, but even he admitted the same problems. invincibility damage frames should take a bit longer, and the special stages are still very hard, but it is still a really really fun game to play

what would spring twirl look like in this remake?(you can test to see if are good or not
Nicely done
Hey, just wanted to say thank you for making this wonderful game! I'm going to play through it soon.
Also, for any Linux users out there I was able to get it to start using Lutris with the following settings under Arch Linux (KDE DE) on my Librem 15 laptop:
With these settings got through the first zone. Will test and report back with any issues.
Edit: Game version 1.07, also did not test gamepad input, just keyboard.
Edit#2: Tested an 8-bit do SN30 Pro+ gamepad (FW 4.01) connected through onboard bluetooth using Nintendo Switch mode (Y+START to turn on gamepad). Worked with no problem mapping buttons.

Sure, that will be fine. If I find any bugs or other issues I will let you know.
Hello! I have already commented here but this time is something else, when you connect my ps4 control the game takes a long time to load things, it is a bit annoying,¿ I wonder if this only happens to me or is it part of the game?

It's a side effect of the new start function that may happen on windows 10 systems when a controller is connected.
You'll be able to revert to the Fusion pause when 1.08 hits if that bothers you.
thanks for answering, I'll wait for 1.08 then
1.08 is out! Use a link with a command line /OLDPAUSE to play with the old pause system (You will have to press ENTER to unpause the game)
This sounds silly, but how do I activate it? I have been seeing but I cannot find the way to put such a command
You may still get slowdowns when levels load and you use a controller: it's windows 10's fault that for reasons out of my control takes a long time to load the controller's routines into the game's joystick controls.
I can't remove directX dependancy from the game, all transparency effects in the game rely on it...
Do you have this water problem with Amy only? It seems really odd...
No, all characters
I can delete the textures of the Water?
The water has no textures...it's a custom DirectX effect that draws the deformed background on the water box.
I'm sorry, but at the moment I have no idea what can cause that problem on your end.
EDIT: I'm working on a compatibility option to use a simpler water effect. That may solve your issue once 1.08 will release.
Version 1.08 is out, try to make a link with the command line /LIGHTWATER (see the troubleshooting section above on the steps to do it)
the special stage is too fast ...
a good name for the game : Sonic Flickies Island
I installed the latest update but my game is now running slower.
I had to add two more processes to have a fully working pause button, that probably introduced some slowdown on some systems...
Did you try to use the /MIS1 mode as well? (check troubleshooting above)
Yes, it still runs slow on that mode.
I'll figure out a way to put an option to enable the old pause system in version 1.08.
You will be forced to un-pause with enter, but you will not have the slowdown caused by the new pause process.
Alright, thank you!
i tried to download but it said invalid upload
Can you retry? I just downloaded from Itch without any issues

7/10 for version 1.06.
At the minute 0:49 there is a trampoline down. I hope I've helped

agreed with you here
Hey creator of you're reading this i would suggest changing the title from Sonic 3d in 2d to Sonic 2d blast cause people are gonna get confused what its based on
There is a rom hack that already uses that name. It would spark a lot more confusion.
so i binded a controller to the game and then unplugged it when i was done. Got that? Okay. so i tried to play the game without the controller (because i don't have it on me) but it doesn't take inputs from my keyboard but is waiting for inputs from my controller

thank you for your response! is there anyway to avoid this on my own or do you need to fix the bug?
Did you make an attempt to map your controller by deleting the "last" profile and trying again?
yes, but when i delete "Last", I am back at where I started and it doesn't give me the option to map my controller until I map the keyboard, again, brings me back to square one. I just tried several times and nothing changed. maybe you should have a remapping options in the extras for the sake of pacing. this way you could have it automatically save the remapping even if the game freezes. you could just close the game and open it back up using the controller
You should be able to select the controller by clicking the arrows before pressing accept with the mouse.
The controls screen can also be accessed in the title screen by pressing up.
It runs on directX9 libraries. Any of the newer directX versions (11 for win 7 and 8 and 12 for win10) contain those libraries.
One of the best sonic fangames I have played this year, boss fights are challenging and my favorite battle of the game is fighting all sonic mecha, I wish them good luck and i hope more people play this fangame :D, Here is a video against all the bosses without taking damage:
Thank you for playing! I can see you mastered every single boss! Great work! Keep playing and unlock all of the extras!
The water is a DirectX controlled effect. Can you please verify if you have Microsoft DirectX properly installed in your computer?
As for bonus levels, I already saw some guys on youtube nailing all of them with no problem, it just takes some practice I guess...

Which Version are you using? This bug should have been solved since 1.04.
¿Qué versión está utilizando? Este error debería haberse resuelto desde v1.04.
oh ... I just realized that my version of the game is 1.00, sorry
The game not recognize my 360 joypad.
I know it is ask much bur, can you made a version to us record the game in cd to play in saturn or made a megadrive rom version?
Thank you!

Ok. Thanks. I haven't beaten it yet.
Made a video
Just saw it on youtube! Thank you for playing!
Enter on the keyboard unpauses the game. It's an unfortunate limitation of the pause action of Fusion 2.5.
EDIT: Version 1.07 solved this problem!
the problem in special stages are the fast appear of rings you cant grab most of the rings and the bombs that makes horrible and the jump is like you jumping in brong timing and you touch the bonbs and lose rings (sorry for my bad english, i talk spanish)
Got stuck in this place today (gene gadget act 1). Couldn't get out...
I see, you managed to backtrack into a Knuckles only path. I'll put a control to prevent that from happening. Thank you.
Awesome!
1.06 fixed this issue, thank you for reporting!
Sorry to bother you again being trying the 1.03 version and want to ask about two things.

Wow, this is quite strange! I'll see if I manage to replicate the problem and fix it for the next patch. Thank you for reporting!
EDIT: solved! It will be fixed with 1.05.
is that when I was closing the door I wanted to enter and I got stuck xD
Woow! How fast, thank you very much for making this game, it reminds me of my childhood ... it is excellent. I completed it 1 hour ago and I confess that it was not easy xD
If you break those rocks as super sonic and go trough them and continue you get stuck cause you can't reuse the elevator :(
Thank you for the notification, I'll put an unbreakable barrier in v1.05!
Hey this game is cool but is possible if you can make the game for 2 players? like Sonic and Tails, and sorry for my english im speak spanish
Just wondering, are there any plans to add more content, or is this it?( I already 100% the game btw)
Hello, thank you for playing and unlocking everything! At the moment I have no plans to add more things to the game and I consider it a completed project.
Or maybe sega genesys ROM format?
I am hoping for this too, I do not know if a saturn version it is possible, but will be awesome
